Wine writer Stan Reitan gives 2011 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc 90 points in SeattlePi: 2011 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc … Marlborough, New Zealand Light grapefruit notes with hits of cut grass and gooseberries. Honeydew melon and grapefruit notes hit you up front with gooseberry showing up on the mid-palate through a long finish with light notes of grapefruit on the backside. I like this one because it is not too heavy on the grapefruit. Good balance and racy acidity. 90 points Read the entire blog: http://blog.seattlepi.com/bluecollarwineguy/2012/02/19/sauvignon-blanc-fourth-place-still-first-in-my-heart/

Marie Claire features Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc in a fun wine pairing twist for Valentine’s Day: what to serve for each stage of a relationship: It’s Complicated: Sometimes things just don’t go so smoothly. He doesn’t totally get you, you don’t totally get him, but you’re both still into it. Hey, the chase can be fun, so drink down some Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc ($16). It’s from Marlborough, New Zealand, where the Sauvignon Blancs are full of tangy cantaloupe – the flavor’s very distinctive and some people love it (like me) and some don’t.
Our 2011 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc is the Detroit News Today’s Recommended Wine for February 8, 2012! Today’s recommended wine Selections are by wine columnist Sandra Silfven, unless otherwise noted. Chasing Venus, 2011 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand, $16 “Chasing Venus is made in that pungent, rich, tart-dry gooseberry, grapefruit, herbal style so typical of Marlborough. It’s got body, a slam of flavor and great acidity for backbone. It’s so Marlborough in style, meaning full-bodied and flavorful. What a beguiling match with Michigan whitefish or pickerel, or Gulf shrimp. It’s by Crew Wine Co., run by the Giguiere family and [...]

The most fascinating pieces of machinery at the winery these days have nothing to do with winemaking. Our new Favorite Things are the two giant Caterpillar D11Ns that are crawling back and forth across the neighboring 2,150 acres we just purchased. These are the triple-XL of tractors and those big boys are suited up for work. Two months ago, we purchased two parcels of land directly across the road from our Matchbook winery. Neither parcel has been farmed for the past 20-odd years, which, in a nutshell, tells the story of the economics of traditional farming in the Dunnigan Hills. [...]

SeattlePi.com recommends our 2010 Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc in writer Stan Reitan’s Top 40 Under Twenty Bucks in 2011: “Just another fantastic sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. It seems as if this wine region just keeps pumping out quality juice at excellent prices. Aromas of fresh cut grass and grapefruit. Vibrant acidity that drives the flavors of grapefruit and pineapple. The mid-palate displays notes of mango and papaya. There is a nice mineral quality along with a creamy texture in the mouth. The zippy flavors hang on for some time. I like this wine because it is not JUST grapefruit. It [...]

Crush is a little like New Years for us. It’s the start of a new vintage; the slate is clean and hopes are high. And all our wine experiments are a little like New Year’s resolutions. Our creative juices flow with the prospect of trying out the new ideas we’ve been noodling for the past year. We have a couple pretty adventurous experiments in the works with the 2011 vintage. One that is keeping us fit is the Red Wine Barrel Fermentation. This is not a new concept. The practice of fermenting red wine in barrel has been around for [...]

The R.H. Phillips brand was their baby, producing great wines such as Toasted Head and EXP. They sold to Vincor in 2000, and John Giguiere worked as CEO of Vincor until 2005. The family started Matchbook, Mossback, Chasing Venus, and Sawbuck, which I’ve written about in other articles. I was excited to try Matchbook’s “King,” in their 2007 Tinto Rey.
